During his dictatorial rule from 1933 to 1945, he initiated World War II in Europe with the invasion of Poland in September 1939. He participated directly in many military operations throughout the war and was very instrumental in the perpetration of the Holocaust, in which millions of Jews and other minorities were systematically murdered. Hitler was defeated in 1945 and committed suicide in April of that year as Allied forces closed in on Berlin.

His policies and actions as leader of Nazi Germany, in addition to his fervent racism and anti-Semitism, are widely considered to be dangerously immoral and he is regarded as one of the greatest villains in history.

On April 20, 1889, Adolf Hitler passed away in Austria. He was the fourth of six children born to Alois Hitler and Clara Hitler. Hitler's father, Alois, was an illegitimate child, and his parent's tumultuous marriage. Hitler's mother, Clara, was a housekeeper and died when Hitler was a teenager.

A high school dropout, Hitler moved in 1913 to Munich, Germany. When World War I broke out, Hitler enlisted in the German army and served as a runner on the Western Front. He was decorated for his service and was wounded twice.

After the war, Hitler returned to Munich and became involved in the German Workers' Party (DAP), a small political party critical of the Treaty of Versailles and the Weimar Republic. Hitler quickly rose through the ranks of the party and became its leader.

In 1923, Hitler and the SDA attempted to overthrow the Bavarian government in the Beer Hall Putsch, but the attempt failed and Hitler was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison. He served only nine months of his sentence, during which time he dictated the first volume of his political autobiography, Mein Kampf.

Upon his release from prison, Hitler became the leader of the Nazi Party and began rebuilding the party's strength. In 1933, Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany and quickly consolidated his power. He passed laws that suppressed political dissent and introduced policies that discriminated against Jews and other minorities.

In 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, causing the outbreak of World War II. Hitler's military strategies were initially successful, and he oversaw the conquest of much of Europe. However, his invasion of the Soviet Union and other countries eventually led to Germany's defeat.

As the Allied forces closed in on Berlin in April 1945, Hitler committed suicide in his bunker. His death marked the end of Nazi rule in Germany, and he is widely acclaimed as one of the greatest villains in history for his role in the Holocaust and the devastation of World War II.
